Economic Development

The City of Powell looks forward to helping you as you consider our community as the location for your business. Our Development Department staff can help answer questions you have about locating in Powell and guide you through the process of making your business goals a reality. Whether you are thinking about locating in our historic downtown district or another area of Powell, we encourage you to contact our Development Department when you want to talk about bringing your business to Powell.

We work closely with the Delaware County Economic Development Department to connect you with their current programs that help businesses locate in our community. We can also provide you with demographic information and tools showing you that Powell is a great place in which to locate. The buying power in the Powell area is significant, and the educational attainment of its population provides the ability to hire great people from the community.

Our historic downtown district has been going through a period of great improvement and has been a major priority for the City. A relatively new Tax Increment Finance District will help to pay for many public infrastructure improvements, which will improve access to and open up areas for new business in the downtown. A functioning Main Street-based organization, Historic Downtown Powell, Inc. (HDPI), has been established within the past two years. With active volunteers, HDPI has been successful in improving the downtown business climate through its Street Markets, Farmers’ Markets and other special events. HDPI also provides training and help for business owners who need information on how to improve their businesses.

The Greater Powell Area Chamber of Commerce is also a great resource for helping you with your business location needs. The chamber provides a number of helpful services, such as frequent newsletters, advertising opportunities, events and group health and life insurance for business owners.
