Boards and Commissions

Records CommissionThe City Council appoints and relies on specialized boards to assist with certain projects. This allows proactive community members with unique talents to pull together for a collective good. We have outlined some of the City of Powell’s Boards and Commissions below and encourage you to get involved. 

Anyone interested in applying to serve on any of these organizations may submit a Powell Board & Commission Application form (pdf) and resume of qualifications to Susie Ross, City Clerk, at sross@cityofpowell.us or via mail at 47 Hall Street, Powell, OH 43065-8357. All applications qualifying for consideration will remain on file for two years. 

Arbor Advisory Subcommittee:
This three-person board is responsible for overseeing the coordination of activities and programs that promote Powell as a tree-friendly city.

Board of Zoning Appeals:
The Board of Zoning Appeals has the authority to hear requests for appeals of the Zoning Administrator and to grant or deny zoning variances in the City of Powell. It is composed of three members appointed by Council. The Board of Zoning Appeals meets on an as-needed basis.

Council for Older Adults:
The Council for Older Adults appointees are representatives from the City of Powell who help continue the mission of improving the quality of life for the older population of Delaware County by helping to improve a community-based system of effective services and opportunities.

Delaware General Health District:
The Delaware General Health District appointee is a City of Powell representative who helps make Delaware County the best place in which to live and work through healthy people, healthy habits and healthy communities.

Jill LoveHistoric District Advisory Commission:
The Historic District Advisory Commission was established to review environmental changes in the Historic District of the City of Powell. There are currently eight members appointed by Council to the Historic District Advisory Commission. The commission meets on the first (optional) and third Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m.

Personnel Board of Review:
The City of Powell Personnel Board of Review is a three-member board that is responsible for prescribing, amending and enforcing rules consistent with the City Charter and Council ordinances regarding civil service positions.

Planning & ZoningPlanning and Zoning Commission:
Seven members comprise the Planning and Zoning Commission. The members, appointed by Council, serve three-year terms. The Planning and Zoning Commission makes recommendations to Council on a variety of development-related issues as well as amendments to the Zoning Code. The Commission meets the second and fourth (optional) Wednesday of each month at 7:30 p.m.


Records Commission:
The City’s Records Commission is established pursuant to the rules and regulations of the State of Ohio. This Commission is responsible for establishing records retention schedules and disposal regulations.

Recreation and Parks Advisory Board:
The Powell Recreation & Parks Advisory Board works to address parks and recreation needs such as reviewing and updating park site master plans, reviewing and updating park rules, advising on park programming and making recommendations regarding park development and funding issues.
