City of Powell launches new online permitting system

The City of Powell has launched a new online permitting system, making it easier for contractors and businesses to apply for and manage permits.
The new OpenGov permitting portal will provide a centralized online location for building, zoning and engineering permits. Applicants will be able to submit permit applications, pay fees, track review status, schedule inspections and communicate with City staff through their online account.
“The goal of this transition is to make the permitting process more convenient and accessible for our residents and development community,” said Planning Director Logan Stang. “Moving to a modern online system will provide applicants with greater visibility into the status of their permits while creating a more streamlined experience for both applicants and City staff.”
The online application process will guide applicants through the information needed for staff to review a project, including required documents and attachments such as construction drawings and site plans.
Homeowners and contractors who already have an OpenGov account through another participating community can use their existing login to access Powell’s permitting portal. New users can create an account through the public portal.
Many residential projects require a permit before work begins, including new homes, additions, renovations, decks, pools, fences, driveways, electrical and plumbing work, HVAC projects, roof replacements and accessory structures. The type of permit required varies based on the scope of the project.
The City encourages residents and contractors to confirm whether a permit is required before beginning work. Projects that require a permit but begin without one are considered a code violation, and permit fees may be doubled when an application is submitted after work has started.
The City’s Development Toolkit (LINK) is available as a resource for homeowners and contractors and provides information about common residential projects, permit requirements, inspections and the permitting process.
