Kimberly’s Diamond Corner, one of Downtown Powell’s oldest and most cherished businesses, has a fresh new look thanks to support from The Powell Development Corporation’s (PDC) Façade Grant program. Located at 1 N. Liberty Street, the building sits prominently on the northwest corner of Powell’s four corners.

Owners Kim and Ralph Renninger were awarded the maximum eligible grant of $18,299.81, with a final reimbursement total of $18,187.36. The Renningers matched the grant dollar-for-dollar, investing a total of $36,374.72 into a wide range of exterior upgrades—including new windows, doors, fencing, awnings, landscaping, and outdoor seating.

“Kim and Ralph had wanted to make these improvements for a long time,” said Powell Economic Development Administrator Sean Hughes. “This grant helped make it happen, and the result is a beautifully refreshed building that sets the tone for the surrounding district. Today, it is an incredible showpiece for our downtown as we continue to drive more investment here with our revitalization efforts.”

The improvements included replacing the entry door, awnings, windows, and fencing behind the building, removing overgrown bushes and replacing them with gravel and seating, and painting the building’s trim to give it a polished, updated appearance.

This effort is part of Powell’s broader commitment to revitalizing its historic downtown. The PDC’s Façade Grant program offers up to 50% of eligible exterior project costs, up to $25,000 per project, to encourage reinvestment in downtown structures. With an annual program budget of around $150,000, the impact has been substantial. In the most recent round, $160,205 in grants helped unlock $966,410 in private investment downtown.

As Powell continues to implement its Downtown / Village Green Master Plan, programs like this one are essential to turning vision into reality.
