Officer Fleming named 2025 Officer of the Year

Officer Fleming has been named the Powell Police Department’s 2025 Officer of the Year in recognition of his outstanding service, leadership and commitment to the community.

Throughout the year, Officer Fleming consistently embodied the department’s motto through his daily patrol responsibilities and his commitment to community engagement. His approach to policing is defined not only by what he accomplishes, but by how he accomplishes it, with professionalism, humility and a genuine desire to serve Powell residents.

Early in 2025, Officer Fleming stepped into the role of coordinator for both the Citizens Police Academy and the Powell Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association. He fully embraced the responsibility, adjusting his schedule and working additional hours on numerous occasions to attend meetings and support participants. His willingness to give his personal time reflects a deep commitment to strengthening the partnership between the Police Department and the community.

Officer Fleming also remained accessible and engaged throughout the year. He provided a department tour for a local Boy Scout troop, delivered a presentation at Hyatts Middle School and attended a neighborhood HOA dinner to answer questions about policing practices.

In 2025, Officer Fleming recorded 307 preventative patrol notices — the highest in the department and nearly double the next closest total. He is dedicated to crime prevention and visible presence throughout the City.

During the S.A.F.E. Passage Initiative, he conducted 12 traffic stops on Sawmill Parkway, exercising sound judgment and discretion. One traffic stop resulted in a citizen sending a an email praising his professionalism, highlighting the respect he shows even during enforcement actions.

While the numbers reflect a strong year of performance, Officer Fleming’s impact extends beyond statistics. It is measured in the trust he builds, the time he gives and the example he sets for his colleagues. His work in 2025 reflects the highest standards of the Powell Police Department and the values it strives to uphold.
