The pedestrian bridge connecting the multi-use path between Halverston and Rutherford roads will remain closed while the City evaluates repair and replacement options following damage sustained during the recent windstorms.

Fallen trees caused significant damage to the bridge in June, creating a safety hazard that required its immediate closure.

City crews have removed debris from the site and secured the area. With the debris cleared, engineering staff are continuing to assess the bridge's structural integrity and determine the safest path forward.

The City has submitted an insurance claim for a full bridge replacement. Given the extent of the damage, a complete replacement would require engineering design, permitting and construction.

In the meantime, the City is evaluating whether temporary repairs to the damaged timber components could safely reopen the bridge while a permanent replacement is designed and constructed. Any decision to reopen the bridge will be based solely on confirming that it can safely support pedestrian and bicycle traffic.

As part of the City's response to the windstorm, staff are also inspecting trees and canopy conditions throughout the park system to identify and address any additional safety concerns.

We understand this bridge is an important connection for many residents and appreciate the community's patience as we work toward the safest and most effective long-term solution. Additional updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
