Powell Sees Traffic Safety Improvements from Sawmill Parkway Campaign
Published on September 23, 2025
The City of Powell Police Department announces the successful conclusion of the S.A.F.E. Passage Initiative, a summer-long traffic safety campaign focused on Sawmill Parkway.
Since the initiative launched May 1, Powell Police officers have conducted 480 traffic stops, issuing 396 warnings and 84 citations along the Sawmill Parkway corridor. These targeted enforcement efforts have contributed to a measurable improvement in roadway safety.
Crash data confirms the initiative’s effectiveness. In summer 2024, Sawmill Parkway recorded 13 crashes, 8 of which involved injuries. In summer 2025, that number fell to 9 crashes, with only 2 involving injuries. This represents:
∙ A 31% overall reduction in crashes year over year.
∙ A 75% reduction in injury-related crashes.
∙ 6 fewer injury crashes, translating into fewer emergency responses, fewer medical costs, and fewer families directly impacted by roadway incidents.
“These results reinforce the importance of focused enforcement in areas with high crash frequency,” said City of Powell Deputy Chief of Police Scott Roach. “The decline in injury crashes is particularly significant and shows that driver behavior can improve with consistent monitoring and enforcement.”
While the SAFE Passage Initiative has formally concluded, Powell Police will maintain enforcement presence along Sawmill Parkway.
“The decline in injury crashes is encouraging, but our work is not done. We will continue to make Sawmill Parkway a priority and sustain enforcement efforts to protect drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians throughout the year.” said Roach.
