The City is always searching for residents in the City of Powell who have an interest in serving our community. Please visit our Board & Commissions page to learn more about the many opportunities to volunteer. The City currently has the following opportunities.
Tree Board – The Tree Board consists of up to six members appointed by City Council, including one Chairperson and up to five additional members. Members may include City staff and residents, as well as individuals with expertise in arboriculture, horticulture, environmental science, landscape architecture, planning, or related fields. Members serve staggered three-year terms.
The meeting schedule and frequency have not yet been determined. Meetings are expected to be held during daytime hours and may take place at various locations throughout the City, including parks and other public spaces. Individuals interested in serving on the Tree Board must have availability to attend meetings during the day.
The Tree Board serves in an advisory capacity to City Council and the City Manager on matters related to the care, preservation, planting, maintenance, and removal of public trees throughout the City. The Board assists with urban forestry planning, supports the City’s participation in the Tree City USA program, and promotes tree planting and preservation initiatives. The Tree Board also encourages community engagement through educational outreach and events such as Arbor Day and provides recommendations on public tree policies, ordinances, and long-term planning strategies.
Community Reinvestment Area Housing Council - The seven member board consists of two members appointed by the Mayor, two members appointed by City Council, one member appointed by the Planning Commission, and two members appointed by majority consensus of the other five members of the board. The Housing Council reviews properties within the district for which an exemption has been granted under Section 3735.67 of the ORC and hears appeals under Section 3735.70 of the ORC.
